“It seems to me that there are two principle arguments from the left in favor of taxation: (1) Taxation is a means of redistributing wealth and (2) policies focused on taxing the wealthy and redistributing their wealth serve the strategic aim of heightening class consciousness. Regarding the first, it’s simply false. Insofar as taxation amounts to a redistribution of wealth, it serves the same purpose now as it did in the days of lords and kings – to take the fruits from those who work and give them to those who own. Mitt Romney’s revelation recently that he paid less than 15% in taxes on income from capital gains should illustrate the point well enough. Federal and state governments subsidize his various enterprises well beyond this limited figure, while he reaps the surplus value produced by workers under his employ. This case is not limited; it’s the norm. Perhaps the most egregious expression of this dynamic is the US war machine. Ordinary people pay taxes so that contractors can win outlandish contracts to murder people all over the world – ultimately, of course, to subsidize various capitalist enterprises (the most obvious of which being weapons manufacture). The rightwing idea that the worker is put upon by moochers has an element of truth – except the moochers tend to live in mansions, play tennis, and wear suits.”
Hi! I just started a tumblr, the Transgender Couchsurfing Network. After seeing dozens of posts come across my dash about displaced or homeless trans people needing places to crash, I decided that there had to be a way to organize these posts somehow, and to put those in need in contact with those willing to lend a hand. If you’re trans and need a place to stay, or if you have a couch or floor or spare bedroom available for someone in need, I urge you to reblog this post, follow the blog, and get the word out. Everything is still under heavy construction, but the more people that see and hear about this blog, the more people will be able to benefit from it! I know that there are so many people here on tumblr who are in need of a place to stay for a night or two, and I also know how many amazing, wonderful people would be willing to host someone and help out a trans person in need. We all know what a huge problem unemployment and homelessness are for trans people (especially TPOC and trans women) — even a place to stay for a night can make the biggest difference! So PLEASE, even if you can’t offer up your couch, REBLOG AND SIGNAL BOOST. I really, really think that this is something that could help a lot of people, and I would LOVE to see this spammed all over my dash and the dashes of all of my lovely followers!!

When someone tells me she has feminist concerns with sex work, I tell her to fuck off.
But the above is good too.

My name is Marissa Alexander, I am a mother of three children, but at the present time, I am not able to be with them due to the following circumstances. I am currently sitting in the Pretrial Detention Facility in Jacksonville FL, Duval County awaiting a sentence for three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with no intent to harm. On an August afternoon, I was in the perilous position of leaving an abusive relationship with my husband who has history of violence and documented domestic abuse towards women including myself. In an unprovoked jealous rage, my husband violently confronted me while using the restroom. He assaulted me, shoving, strangling and holding me against my will, preventing me from fleeing all while I begged for him to leave. In fear and desperate attempt, I lifted my weapon up, turned away and discharged a single shot in the wall up in the ceiling. As I stood my ground it prevented him from doing more harm and he ran out of the home. Outside of the home, he contacted the police and falsely reported that I shot at him and his sons. The police arrived and I was taken into custody.
Monday morning, 9am, there will be a pre-hearing at the court house downtown Jacksonville. WE NEED TO BE THERE! This case is slowly gaining some exposure, thanks to grassroots actions and the media is slowly beginning to take notice, just like in the Trayvon Martin case, but there is still much work to be done. The media is finally opening their eyes but Marissa needs our help!

No.
Just stop.
I saw that. This is yet another reason it was very very stupid to take a webcomic joke meant to promote some dissatisfaction and try and make it into a critical-thinking-free measurement of “good”.”
The genesis for the blog originated from a Twitter buddy’s disgust at the Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton love-fest that occurred the week prior. As brown-skinned Muslims continue to die from our deranged foreign policy, partisan hacks busy themselves with reblogging completely inane images of…
If you think that “socialists aren’t so bad”, “communists can be nice”, “mutualism is anarchy”, “capitalism is bad but markets are good”, “wages mean markets aren’t free”, “the relationship between employer and employee is authoritarian and it’s libertarian to destroy it”, “libertarians…
You go, brave libertarian! Next stop for all freedom lovers: Ben Tucker’s grave in the winter, so we can take a nice long whizz on it in the shape of a dollar sign! After that, Spooner! Then maybe if you can fit it into the schedule, Voltarine…
